What is it about?
Why should I find a hobby?
-
Hobbies help you structure your time. According to Parkinson’s law, “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” As work is never complete, without a good excuse, it will probably consume as much of your time as it can. All of it, possibly. Even when you physically off-working, many times you still on-it mentally. Your mind always occupied by it. For many of us, work-life balance is no more than a phrase.
Hobbies can help you frame and contain your work hours, creating real boundaries and giving you a real break — a true rest from work. As a result, it will probably make you more time-efficient.
-
Hobbies can make you new social connections. When reaching a certain age and a certain stage of life, it becomes rarer and harder for a lot of us to meet new people, let along to form new meaningful relationships. Hobbies can be a platform for making new friends and better getting to know our communities. Countless studies have found that social connection is a key component of happiness and a meaningful life. Hobbies make a better you. Hobbies can make a stronger, sharper, smarter, fitter, healthier, more aware, more mindful, and more interesting you. A hobby can add layers to your identity and help you to better get to know yourself. Hence, enriching and strengthening your sense of self, your self-concept.
-
Hobbies promote flow. In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting transformation in one’s sense of time.
A flow state is a true thing. You might have experienced it before. It’s great. It’s a truly different state of mind, that opens-up new opportunities of joy, self-improvements in any aspect, and relaxation.

Hobbies are stress relievers and help ward off depression.

How can I choose a hobby?
The internet is full of methodical answers to this question. We believe that finding a hobby is like finding love — guides, checklists, and quizzes are useless. When you see it — you know it is it. The problem is getting to see it. This where we help.
The thought of adopting a new hobby probably crossed your mind before. You then tried to run ideas in your head. Only a few, familiar and banal ones came up. Then, uninspired, you gave up — and continued with your hobbyless life.
Actually, there are hundreds, even thousands, of hobbies to choose from. Our extensive and filterable hobbies list is here to open your mind and uncover them for you.
